“Live Outside My Body?”
In my April 25th entry below, I quoted the late Richard Wurmbrand–a Romanian pastor who spent 14 years in a Romanian prison for preaching Jesus Christ. When I met Richard in his L.A. home, my line of questioning was along the lines of “How can the church in America prepare for persecution?” Another part of his response was: “You American Christians need to learn to live outside your bodies!” Then, he related the story of carrying on a banned Bible study with his cellies in a Romanian prison, followed by the guard pulling him out into the hallway and beating him with a lead-tipped rubber hose. As he was being bloodied and broken, he was saying to himself, “Now, what was that next point I want to share with the men in our Bible study?” When thrown back into his cell, he pulled himself up the side of the cot and resumed the study.
“That,” said he, “is what it means to live outside your body.”
